Recipe: Casein Tempera

Processing

Step 1: Stir 4.8 g Methocel into 120 ml water until the cellulose paste is dispersed without lumps and allow to swell overnight.
Step 2: Dilute 60 ml casein binder with 180 ml water. When diluting the casein, stir in the water in small portions, otherwise the casein may flocculate.
Step 3: Mix 20 ml linseed stand oil with 100 ml linseed oil.
Step 4: Gradually stir the diluted casein glue solution into the cellulose glue solution until the components are homogeneously mixed. Then stir in the linseed oil-stand oil mixture until a creamy white emulsion with a smooth texture is obtained.
