Recipe: Acrylic Paint, general

Dispersion selection: In order to facilitate the selection of a suitable dispersion for your purposes, we have briefly summarized the properties of the individual dispersions: Acrylic Dispersions

Pigment selection: All pigments suitable for Acrylic".

Processing

Step 1: As a general rule, it is recommended that pigments are first soaked in water, mixed or grounded, and then the acrylic dispersion is added to prevent lump formation in the paint.
Step 2: Some pigments require a wetting agent, e.g. Orotan (#78032). Orotan 731 K is a dispersing agent for all pigments in acrylics. The pigment is mixed with 0.25 - 1 % Orotan (in difficult cases up to 5 %). This should be done slowly, as the Orotan can increase foaming when stirred rapidly. Never add more than 5 % Orotan, as this can thicken the color!
Step 3: Mix the pigment and dispersion slowly and add water to obtain the desired consistency. Use more pigment for matte and less for glossy colors.

We cannot give an exact mixing ratio pigment : dispersion, as this may vary when using different pigments. We provide a guideline in the ingredient list. A rule of thumb is "the finer the pigment, the more binder it needs to avoid chalking".

Step 4: Check abrasion resistance in a sample spread. If the spread chalks, more binder must be added.

0,1-0,5 part(s) Defoamer (#78600)

Additional Information

Note

To prevent foaming in dispersions, 0.1-0.5 % defoamer (#78600) can be added. The defoamer is best added at the beginning of the color production when the pigments are being mixed or diluted with a little water. However, this additive should be used extremely sparingly, because too much defoamer can lead to staining!

Depending on the choice of dispersion, different surface finishes can be achieved, here are some examples:
Hard glossy surface: Dispersion K 498 (#76000) or Primal AC 35 (#75100)
Very clear hard surface: Dispersion K19 gloss (#75305)
Matt surface: Dispersion K 52 (#75075), Dispersion K 19 Matt (#75355), Dispersion K 9 (#75367)
Elastic layers: Dispersion K 9 (#75367)

Add a filler to increase bulk, and texture or reduce gloss. Use pigment and filler proportional 1:1.

We assume no liability for the processing instructions described above. In any case, we recommend the production and evaluation of sample surfaces.
